Saturday Night Lyrics

Lyrics from "way back" :
"You said boy make girl feel good"
It is not like I just discovered this song or group, just the first blog post on the subject. Read the lyrics for yourself and, hell, listen to the song.

But it is quite a simple sentence. It begs the question: Does that state the life and the relations between men and women?

I believe I know what I think on the subject, but that is not the point, at least right now. Decide for yourself what it means, if anything, if only at the margin. That is far more important than what I think. Don't you think? If not, why not think and decide for yourself?

On Memorial Day...

A semi-political cartoon:

I guess the only tattoo that I have every seriously considered was "Live Free or Die", but all I can do is thank those that fight and die so I can be free to contemplate such a body marking. And today, I do just that:

"Thank you to all the unknown and unable heroes, past, present and future. "

True That

When environmentalism is not based upon fact, it loses credibility:
"Plastic grocery bags are being banned, even though they require less energy to make and recycle than paper ones. The country is being forced to subscribe to a modern version of transubstantiation, whereby corn is miraculously transformed into sinless energy even as it does worse damage than oil."
At least it does with me, because I prefer fact over fiction.

Hydrogen Perfection?

This post caught my eye:
"I also note that H2 gas is itself pretty much the perfect fuel for internal-combustion engines. Engineers have known for decades that hydrogen injection into the air intake, just before injecting into the combustion chamber, improves fuel efficiency enormously. By weight, hydrogen has three times the energy of gasoline."
I was about to jump in with both feet until I read the "yeah but" paragraph:
"The rub has always been how to get the hydrogen gas. H2 is very difficult to store. Hydrogen atoms are so small that making a leakproof container is no simple thing. H2 gas takes up a lot of space, making it imperative either to compress it (adding a safety concern and increasing the leaking challenge) or liquefying it (adding the refrigeration problem of mobile storage). And both compression and liquefaction of H2 add weight and complexity to an auto."
I would not want a hydrogen storage tank on my car; my years in the chemical industry have taught me about hydrogen; "trust me". All in all, hydrogen (H2) is not a good energy storage device. There is no getting around the negative qualities merely by wishing it so. That is the bottom line. Next idea please.

Paging Al Gore....

Say what? Global warming does not cause stronger and more hurricanes?:
"Global warming isn't to blame for the recent jump in hurricanes in the Atlantic, concludes a study by a prominent federal scientist whose position has shifted on the subject."
How inconvenient!

Nothing Complicated About Finance?

That is an understatement, but one made in a single paragraph:
"There is nothing complicated about finance. It is based on old people lending to young people. Young people invest in homes and businesses; aging people save to acquire assets on which to retire. The new generation supports the old one, and retirement systems simply apportion rights to income between the generations. Never before in human history, though, has a new generation simply failed to appear."
I never thought of it that way, but it is simple and quite correct (in my estimation at least).

Quick update from the end of the article:
"Economics simply does not offer a solution to a lapse of the will to live among some of the world's richest economies. The Europeans are paying for their own nihilism. Having invented the perfect post-Christian society with cradle-to-grave services, they have not found anyone willing to live in it, except for the immigrants who well may inherit it from the disappearing locals. "
Can I offer an, "indeed"?

Yes, I Know..

...that Texas has a record low jobless rate:
"“Texas continues to outpace national trends with its record low unemployment rate,” said Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Chairman Tom Pauken."
It is extremely difficult to hire qualified applicants. Good for the employee, not so good for the employer looking for people to fuel their organizations.

I Love My Dog, But....

I don't see myself giving one a funeral.:
"The Pet Angel Memorial Center offers human touches to help pet owners mourn their animals, including viewing areas and a space for services."
I don't know what I will do when my dog dies (many years from now, hopefully) other than mourn in private, gather my pictures and share my memories with my personal friends.

That is not to say I don't know people who would give their pets a funeral. I do, but I am not one of them.

No Oil Shale Development in Colorado

Via Instapundit

The Senate continues to block oil shale extraction in Colorado:
"The Senate Appropriations Committee today narrowly defeated Sen. Wayne Allard's attempt to end a moratorium related to oil shale development in Colorado."
Interesting side note. This blogger grew up in the same city as Allard's daughter. Of course, I lived on the "poor" side of town and she on the "rich", but we knew of each other.

Plastic-Free Stupidity

With all due respect to Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit, the anti-plastic crusaders promote a cause that is just as valid as the anti-vaccine nut jobs.

Plastics are one of the best inventions of human-kind. They are very safe and there is no scientific proof to the contrary. Plastics provide immeasurable benefits to a vast majority of the human race including the key to life itself - clean water. Those that are on the other side don't have reason, logic or evidence to the contrary, regardless of any Instalaunch.

If Only

Profound.
I survive on the breath
You are finished with
Maybe, someday, that will be true.

Founding Fathers Spinning

Our Founding Fathers must be dancing in their graves:
"# Rampant political correctness
# A newfound 'right' for protected groups to be free from being offended, a right that now seems to trump free speech
# The fetishization of symbolism over substance, and the belief that other people's reactions to an act is more important than the nature of that act itself."

Predicting Green

If only for Al:
"We have a prediction all our own — that disastrous global warming will not occur. Then the greenies will take credit for preventing it and ask us if we're glad we spent trillions in fighting it. Al Gore will be laughing all the way to the bank."
Just one more reason to live another 80 years or so.

Eating On Floor

Imagine the horror:
"The report, released this week, found the punishment was demeaning and unsafe, but not biased since it was common for non-Hispanic students as well."
How is eating lunch while sitting on the floor unsafe? This is PC stupidity.

Air pollution in Wyoming?

And this is why it matters:
"Conservation groups have seized on the ozone alerts in their efforts to curb drilling for natural gas in the area."
Yep. It is all about regulations.

Depression Quote

From commentary on economic negativism:
"'The media promised a depression and all we got was yet another lousy quarter of economic expansion.'

~Comment from Ken Braun"
Indeed.

Not for me, for thee

Everyone does not get it. Saving the planet is not for the elites to do, but for the ordinary peasants:
"Is the hot air emitted by celebrities when they spout ecological platitudes a greenhouse gas?"
Read it and find out.

And We Will All Suffer For It

Don't listen to economists at your own risk: "
“I’m not going to put in my lot with economists,”
Welcome to serfdom. I say that like we are not there already.

Where is Al Gore?

Evidence for Global Warming:
"The mayor of Rapid City, S.D., Friday pleaded with residents to stay home as a May blizzard closed down streets and highways in parts of the state.

'Please, stay off the roads until the weather clears. The wind is still gusting to 50 mph with heavy snow,' said Mayor Alan Hanks. 'There are very few businesses that are going to open, so take a day off and enjoy it.'
But, wait. It gets better.
Rapid City police said they would cite any motorists who got stuck in drifts and were traveling on any non-essential business, the Rapid City Journal reported."
Send the bill to Al. It should be spring by now.

The "less-great" Generation

PJ O'Rourke has it nailed:
"Don't moan. I'm not going to 'pass the wisdom of one generation down to the next.' I'm a member of the 1960s generation. We didn't have any wisdom."
Needless to say, "read the whole thing, for it is good."

Price Signals

Coyote Blog: The Profit Motive Rocks:
"When a politician describes price signals as mainly influencing political actions, rather than the actions of free producers and consumers, they are probably a socialist."
Yep.

Add This to the List

Global Warming is to blame for everything:
"Another contributory factor to the location of shark attacks could be global warming and rising sea temperatures."

Blackberry Overtime

In Canada, they are asking for overtime pay to carry Blackberry's:
"Unions representing workers in Canada are calling for extra pay from the employers who provide the workers with the BlackBerries to compensate them for the extra hours worked."
Good luck with that.

They Are Already an Alliance

Coyote
wants us to know our enemy:
"While it may be urgent that we create a red green alliance to strengthen radical social action to stop climate change, our collective problem is how are we going to do that?"
The red-green alliance is at the core of climate change propaganda. Why do you think they are called watermelons? "Green on the outside, red on the inside"
